The Sundae is currently accepting submissions for publication on our website. We’re looking for pop culture criticism, particularly film and TV criticism. We tend to publish articles in the 2,000 to 4,500 words range, but that’s not a hard-and-fast rule. We prefer full drafts to pitches, but both are welcome. If sending a pitch, please include writing samples.
We are interested in analysis with passion, thoughtfulness, humour and a strong sense of pop culture history. While we’re interested in cultural criticism with a political bent, we do not publish writing that’s primarily political. We’re also not interested in standard reviews of newly released films, TV shows or music, hot takes, or anything closely tied to a news item.
We do not publish fiction, poetry, or personal narrative essays. We are not interested in anything that is exclusively happening on Twitter and have a house rule against citing bad tweets.
Contributors to The Sundae will be paid, though not very much. Pitches and full submissions can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org.
